HARRISBURG, PA -- The City Islanders are excited to announce six more players to the 2009 roster. Fan favorites Mo Oduor and Nate Baker signed on for another season in Harrisburg. Tomer Chencinski, Jay Herford, Jason Massie, and Cody Reinberg will be new faces on the Island this season. All players are pending USL and USSF approval.
Mo Oduor will be returning to the City Islanders for his sixth season. The dangerous center midfielder will once again be a menace to opposing teams. Prior to joining the Islanders, the native of Eldoret, Kenya, played for the Carolina Dynamo and Long Island Rough Riders. He played the first two years of his collegiate career at the University of Charleston WV, where he earned All-American honors as a sophomore, before transferring to Furman University for his junior and senior years. Prior to coming to the States, Oduor earned time with the Under-20 Kenyan National Team.
After two successful seasons with the Islanders, Nate Baker has been resigned for 2009. Last season Baker played 1,449 minutes, starting 17 of the 18 games in which he played. He converted three penalty kicks during the season, resulting in the first three goals in his Islanders' career. Prior to coming to Harrisburg, Baker played at American University, starting 62 of his 77 career games. Serving as captain for two years, he helped lead the Eagles to the Patriot League Championship and NCAA Tournament in 2004.
Representing #14 for the Islanders this season will be Goalkeeper Tomer Chencinski. A native of Tel Aviv, Israel, Chencinski played for two seasons at Robert Morris University; ranking 16th in the country in saves per game in 2004. He then transferred to Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he played for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. In 2007, Chencinski joined MLS' Toronto FC for the outdoor season and the now-defunct MISL's Detroit Ignition for the indoor season. In 2008, Chencinski spent the season with the PDL's Newark Ironbound Express, he posted a 6-2-3 record with a 1.08 goals against average.
Jay Herford will add depth in goal for the Islanders. Herford was a two-year starter in net for Frostburg State University where he received All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Honorable Mention in 2007 and an All-Conference Second team pick in 2008. During his season at FSU, he ranked second with a goals against average of 0.77, third in save percentage (.797), and ninth in saves (59).
Jason Massie will join the Islanders' midfield in 2009. Born in England, Massie played his youth soccer in the elite Liverpool F.C. system. During his time with Liverpool, he rose from the U-12 to the Reserve Team Level. Massie also played for England's U-17 side. After spending the 2005 season with Prescot Cables F.C., Massie moved to the States to attend the University of Rio Grande in Ohio. While there he earned NAIA All-Region honors, All-Conference honors and was named an Honorable Mention All-American. Massie spent the past two summers playing with the elite PDL club, Cape Cod Crusaders.
A native of Missouri, Cody Reinberg joins the Islanders after a year with another elite PDL club the Des Moines Menace. Prior to joining the Menace, he was a four-year starter at Drury University in Springfield, MO. During his time as a Panther, Reinberg was an All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Honorable Mention and All-Great Lakes Region Third team, and All-Conference First Team honors.
