Carolina acquires Charlotte's Kabwe

CARY, NC -- The Carolina RailHawks announced today they have signed Zimbabwe International and former Charlotte Eagles midfielder Joseph Kabwe on a transfer from the USL-2 Charlotte Eagles, pending League and USSF approval. Details of the deal were not disclosed.

Kabwe has been a key player for Charlotte (Rusty Burroughs)Kabwe will make his RailHawk debut at the “Community Shield” match on Saturday, March 14, at 7:00 p.m. against Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution. “Joseph Kabwe is probably one of the most creative players I have seen since I came to America,” said RailHawks Head Coach Martin Rennie. “He’s really good on the ball, creates chances for his teammates and sometimes scores himself. We are really happy to have him.”

Kabwe spent the last three years in the USL Second Division with the Charlotte Eagles where he established himself as a mainstay in the Eagles’ midfield. During his tenure in Charlotte, Kabwe tallied seven goals and recorded eleven assists for a total of 25 points. Kabwe was also named to the USL-2 Team of the Week five times in the three years at Charlotte which made the move to a USL-1 team a natural transition.

“Having played in the Second Division, I thought it would be a great opportunity to play in a USL-1 side,” said RailHawks midfielder Jospeh Kabwe. “I look forward to some great competition playing for the RailHawks.”

Kabwe also spent three seasons in the PDL prior to signing with Charlotte, beginning with the Des Moines Menace in 2003 before spending the next two campaigns with the Michigan Bucks. He tallied nine goals and tied for the league-lead with 10 assists in Des Moines. He notched six goals and nine assists over the next two years.

The Carolina RailHawks are continuing to build an impressive team for the 2009 season. Over the next few weeks the RailHawks will announce a few more great signings that will complete the 2009 roster.
