Will face D.C. United after 4-1 win against Icon FC

The Richmond Kickers claimed a 4-1 win against Icon FC in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night, setting up a third-round contest where they will face the club’s MLS affiliate D.C. United on Tuesday, May 28. After conceding a ninth-minute Argjent Duka goal, the Kickers rallied behind a Joseph Ngwenya penalty kick and a pair of Stanley Nyazamba tallies to oust their USASA opponent from the tournament.

Open Cup win against Stampede sets up contest with Rapids

Behind one goal in either half, Orlando City SC advanced past the PDL’s Ocala Stampede 2-1 on Tuesday night in the second round of the 100th edition of Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Forest High School. With the win, the Lions will host Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Colorado Rapids next Tuesday, May 28, at Fifth Third Bank Field at the Florida Citrus Bowl.

Herrera strikes twice in 3-0 victory for Charlotte

The Charlotte Eagles overcame a sluggish first-half performance to beat the Sounders FC U-23’s 3-0 in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night. Charlotte advances to play Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire on Wednesday, May 29th at Winthrop University at 7 p.m.

MLS Announces New York City FC

Manchester City, New York Yankees acquire 20th franchise

Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber announced today that a partnership of global sports powers, Manchester City Football Club and the New York Yankees, has acquired the League’s 20th expansion club. The new team will be named New York City Football Club (NYCFC) and expects to begin play in 2015.

Kelly Named Player of the Week

Had game-winner in Battery�s victory against Houston

USL PRO named its Team of the Week for Week Nine of the season on Tuesday, with the Charleston Battery’s Dane Kelly earning Player of the Week honors after scoring the game-winning goal in the Battery’s 1-0 win against the Houston Dynamo Reserves on Sunday morning. The win moved the Battery into second place in the USL PRO standings, and handed Houston its first reserve defeat this season.
