CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Phoenix FC got a pair of goals from David Paul as they took a 4-0 victory against the Charlotte Eagles on Saturday night at Queens Sports Complex. The Wolves took the first road victory in club history as a flat first half by the Eagles allowed Phoenix to take a 3-0 halftime lead, and Cameron Vickers added a fourth in the 83rd minute to cap the victory.
The Charlotte Eagles had a rough start, Saturday night. The Wolves struck first in the 18th minute as Paul collected a cross in the box from Isaiah Schafer and found the back of the net. Toia made it 2-0 off a set piece just four minutes later in the 22nd minute.
Paul got his second goal of the night with a great shot on goal in the 32nd minute that was set up by Thomas Ramos. The first half was all Wolves as the Eagles tried to find their footing.
With significant substitutions at the start of the second half the Eagles tried to find a way back into the game, and showed greater vigor as they tried to hit back. While the Eagles had 14 shots in the second half, however, Phoenix goalkeeper Neal Kitson rose to the challenge as he recorded his first shutout for the club. Vickers then added a spectacular fourth goal to cap the Wolves' victory with seven minutes to go, capitalizing on a counter-attack as he rifled a shot into the top-left corner of the net.
The Charlotte Eagles are back in action Friday, August 2 as they host the Richmond Kickers at 7 p.m. at Queens Sports Complex. Order your tickets today at www.charlotteeagles.com or call 704-841-8644x19.
