City Islanders Capital Cup to be held in June, 2013

Harrisburg City Islanders News Release --

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Harrisburg City Islanders, Lehigh Valley United and YSC United Sports Tournaments partner with the Philadelphia Union for the inaugural Philadelphia Union Summer Tournament Series for boys and girls ages U9 – U13. These Philadelphia Union summer tournaments will be held in Harrisburg, the Lehigh Valley and Downingtown, PA. The Harrisburg City Islanders Capital Cup will kick off the series in the Central PA area. The Capital Cup is slated for Sat. June 22 and Sun. June 23, 2013 and will be held at various soccer locations near Harrisburg. The Lehigh Valley Steel City Cup, hosted by Lehigh Valley United will kick off July 13-14, 2013, while the final leg of the series, The Philadelphia Union Victory Cup will be held in Downingtown, PA on July 27-28, 2013

This tournament series is the first of its kind in the region and all three (3) tournaments will be managed by YSC United Sports Tournaments LLC. All Harrisburg City Islanders Youth Academy teams will participate in the three events, starting with the Capital Cup. John Gregg, General Manager, Harrisburg City Islanders; “This is a great opportunity for the Islanders Youth Academy Teams to have a quality tournament for them in their backyard. It is equally as great of an opportunity to partner with the Philadelphia Union, Lehigh Valley United, and YSC United Sports Tournaments in presenting this summer tournament series. This is another link in the chain of the great relationship between the Harrisburg City Islanders and Philadelphia Union.”

Greg Ramos, Director "Lehigh Valley United is excited to bring the Philadelphia Union’s Summer Select and Summer Tournament Series to youth soccer in the Lehigh Valley and North Eastern Pennsylvania. The impact felt in terms of soccer development and added opportunity for youth soccer players will be massive. It is an honor to work with and connect the area to such professionals as the Philadelphia Union, Harrisburg City Islanders, and YSC United Sports through this initiative."

Joe Levan, Director from YSC United Sports Tournaments anticipates that this tournament will become a popular and competitive annual event that will bring boys and girls teams in from throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

John Hatt, Co-Director of YSC United Sports believes these events could very quickly become some of the most prestigious summer tournaments thanks to the strong partnerships of the youth clubs as well as the direct association with the Philadelphia Union.

Teams participating in all three tournaments will have the opportunity to challenge for the Philadelphia Independence Cup. The Cup will be engraved with the winner’s name and placed at PPL Park.
