CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston Battery head to Harrisburg, Pa. on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match against the Harrisburg City Islanders. The Battery enter the game on the back of a tough weekend that saw Charleston tie and lose against the Wilmington Hammerheads.
Last Friday night the Battery came from behind to take a 2-1 lead against Wilmington, but conceded a goal in the 82nd minute as the Hammerheads fought back to earn a point. On Saturday night, after taking an early lead through Charlie Romero, Charleston conceded twice before halftime and were unable to break down a resolute Wilmington defense in the second half.
Midfielder Micheal Azira received a red-card in stoppage time at the end of Saturday’s match and will be suspended for the match against Harrisburg.
This will be the second game of the season between Charleston and Harrisburg; the Battery defeated the City Islanders 3-1 back on June 23 at Blackbaud Stadium behind goals from Jose Cuevas, Navion Boyd and Ryan Richter.
Harrisburg’s last game was a 4-2 loss against Orlando City. The City Islanders (8-6-6) the game in sixth position in the USL PRO standings four points behind the Battery (11-9-1); the top six teams advance to the postseason.
The Battery will complete their away schedule on Saturday night with a 7:05 p.m. match against the Rochester Rhinos. Both games will be broadcast live on 1340 AM, and uslnation.com. The Battery will then conclude the 2012 regular season with a home match on Saturday, August 18th against the Dayton Dutch Lions at Blackbaud Stadium.
