DAYTON, Ohio – Antigua Barracuda FC (3-12-1) travel from the West Coast to Pennsylvania to face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (3-12-5) Friday night before heading slightly west to face the Dayton Dutch Lions (3-10-7) for the first and only time this season on Sunday July 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Miami Valley South Stadium.
“This is a very important game because we want to keep Antigua and Pittsburgh under us," said Coach Ivar Van Dinteren. “After our three games in four days, I gave the boys four days off. I hope they are fit and eager to defeat Antigua. We made so much progress this season that we now have to translate it into results. We will go for the win and nothing less.”
After defeating Harrisburg City Islanders (7-5-6) at home, Dayton hit the road, traveling to Wilmington and Richmond, with disappointing 2-0 losses in both matches. Antigua is traveling from back-to-back losses to the Los Angeles Blues (7-8-2).
Dayton’s Kyle Knotek was named to USL PRO’s Team of the Week for his impressive back-heel to Gerrit-Jan Bartels, who had an honorable mention along with keeper Matt Williams, assisting the game-winning goal against Harrisburg. Lions’ forward Gibson Bardsley still has a commanding lead in shots, recording 47 in 20 games. Antigua’s Peter Byers follows in 10th place with 27 shots, and is tied in 15th with nine points.
Dayton will host their last home game of the season on Saturday, August 11 at 7:30 at Miami Valley South Stadium against the Charlotte Eagles, after opening the season with a 0-0 tie in North Carolina. The Lions will then travel south to play league leaders Orlando City on August 17 and the Charleston Battery the next day. For game tickets, visit the Dutch Lions website.
