WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads will host the Dayton Dutch Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night at Legion Stadium. During Friday’s match the Hammerheads will be adorning commemorative pink jerseys that will be auctioned off by way of silent auction with majority of the proceeds supporting New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation’s ‘The Pink Ribbon Project.’
The Pink Ribbon Project provides funding for local women, without health insurance or other financial resources, to receive mammography screening at one of five approved NHRMC regional sites. On average, the Pink Ribbon Project funds more than 700 mammography screenings each year as well as funding for any diagnostics that may be required for a suspect result.
Winners of each player’s jersey will be brought down to field level for post game ceremony to receive their player’s pink jersey directly off their back.
The Hammerheads are currently unbeaten at Legion Stadium this season, and with three home games left the Hammerheads hope to maintain this streak. The last time the Hammerheads and the Dutch Lions met was back in June, however, as the Dutch Lions took their first victory of the season, handing the Hammerheads a 4-0 defeat. The Dutch Lions are coming off a victory in their last outing as well, having taken a 2-1 win against the Harrisburg City Islanders on Wednesday night.
Still sitting comfortably in fourth place in the USL PRO league standings, Wilmington is looking for two wins, totaling six points, following this weekend’s match ups.
Following Friday’s match the Hammerheads head west to face their in-state rival, the Charlotte Eagles at Charlotte Christian Stadium. This will be the second match up between the two teams this season, with one more game between the two scheduled for August 18 at Legion Stadium rounding out the end of the Hammerheads official 2012 season.
The Hammerheads and the Eagles went to head-to-head at Legion Stadium back in May, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw. Since then, the Hammerheads have added to their roster, gaining more power on the forward line.
