DAYTON, Ohio - The Dayton Dutch Lions are offering a free coaches clinic with former Dutch National Team player Bryan Roy this Saturday. Roy played for Ajax Amsterdam (Dutch Eredivisie), Foggia (Italian Serie A), Nottingham Forrest (English Premier League) and Hertha BSC (German Bundesliga).
Roy is known as one of the worlds best left wingers ever with great skills. He came up through the youth system of Ajax Amsterdam, being taught the fundamentals of the the “Coerver” skills at a very young age. He made his debut for the first team of Ajax under Dutch Legend Johan Cruijff in 1987. Roy played six years with the highly talented group with players such as Marco van Basten, Frank Rijkaard, Ronald Koemen, Dennis Bergkamp, Edgar Davids, Gerald Vanenburg, Frank and Ronald de Boer and Patrick Kluivert.
Roy also made 32 appearances for the Dutch National Team including two World Cups ('90 and '94) and one European Championship ('92) scoring nine goals. In 1993 Roy was transferred form Ajax to Foggia in Italy. From '94 to '97 he played for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League of England, and from '97 to '00 he played in Germany for Hertha BSC in Berlin, finishing his career for NAC Breda in Holland in 2001. Roy is currently a youth coach for the reserve team of one of the most prestigious academies in the world: Ajax Amsterdam.
The Clinic
The coaches clinic will start with a short presentation at the Dutch Lions FC office in Bellbrook. After this presentation participants will hit the field to see some of the drills and coaching from the famous Ajax Academy. The clinic is this Saturday (July 2) from 2-4 p.m. We request all participants to be at the Dutch Lions FC office (8 E Franklin Street, Bellbrook, Ohio, 45305) no later than 1:50 p.m. The clinic is completely free of charge. Don’t forget to bring you cleats!
