CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Eagles and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds meet for the first time this season on Saturday night at Charlotte Christian Stadium at 8 p.m. as the Eagles aim to continue their strong run of form against the visitors from Pennsylvania.
The Eagles have found their rhythm in recent weeks, winning four consecutive USL PRO league games which has moved them into sixth place in the USL PRO standings. The Eagles took a pair of victories against their long-time rival the Charleston Battery last weekend, winning 2-0 at Blackbaud Stadium on Friday night through goals by Nate Thornton and Juan Guzman before Darryl Roberts' goal earned a 1-0 win on Saturday at Charlotte Christian Stadium.
The run of form, that also saw the Eagles reach the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup before falling to Major League Soccer's CD Chivas USA, has left Coach Mark Steffens optimistic for the remainder of the season.
"The playoffs are still a ways off, but we found our form at the right time in the season, and will continue to work hard to reserve our spot in the post season," Steffens said this week.
The Riverhounds will face Richmond on Friday night before coming to Charlotte. The club is coming off two tough losses against the Dayton Dutch Lions and Harrisburg City Islanders, but can get back into the playoff race with a pair of wins on their road trip. The Riverhounds (2-8-6) are six points behind both the Kickers and Eagles, and will be eager to close that gap.
The Eagles will host their last doubleheader of the season on Saturday with the Lady Eagles kicking off at 5:30 p.m. against the Atlanta Silverbacks. The winner advances to the USL W-League playoffs, with the loser seeing its season ended.
The Eagles are also celebrating 20 years of professional soccer Saturday night by honoring Eagles Alumni. Purchase your tickets today and be apart of this great celebration!
