WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads take to the road again as they travel north to Pittsburgh and Dayton, Ohio this weekend to take on the Riverhounds and the Dutch Lions. The Hammerheads are scheduled to play the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at 7 p.m. on Friday night at Chartiers Valley Stadium, and the Dayton Dutch Lions at 8 p.m. on Saturday night at Miami Valley South Stadium.
The Hammerheads and the Riverhounds faced off at Legion Stadium once already this season back in April, when Wilmington took their first win of the 2012 season with a 1-0 victory. The lone goal came from Hammerheads forward Andriy Budnyy in the 45th minute, just before the halftime whistle. Saturday will be the first encounter between the Hammerheads and the Dutch Lions thus far this season. Dayton is the only team Wilmington has yet to play.
After the Hammerheads’ 2-1 win on Friday night against the Richmond Kickers, they have moved into fourth position in the USL PRO standings. The Hammerheads will try to to come back to Wilmington on Sunday after gaining six points over the weekend up north.
UPCOMING GAMES
The Hammerheads will take on the Los Angeles Blues on Saturday, June 30 at Legion Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. as the Hammerheads host “Military Night,” sponsored by the new Whole Foods Market of Wilmington.
In celebration of the 4th of July and to honor our troops, the Hammerheads will have a large fireworks display after the game in the backfield of Legion Stadium. Therefore, backfield parking will not be available for this game. Come out and join other Hammerhead fans over food, drinks, soccer, and celebrating our great nation.
