Hammerheads Face Tough Stretch
Host Antigua on Wednesday before trip to Los Angeles

WILMINGTON, N.C. – After defeating the Pittsburgh Riverhounds for their first victory of the season, the Wilmington Hammerheads are looking to keep their winning streak alive. The Hammerheads have the increasing confidence to begin achieving their goal this week; however with three matches in five days it is going to require perseverance and stamina.

To commence their five-day long trek from coast to coast, the Wilmington Hammerheads take on Antigua Barracuda FC on their home turf of Legion Stadium on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.

“It is ultimately going to be a long and exhausting run for us,” said Hammerheads Head Coach David Irving. “It would be great to start off our five-day haul with a win versus Antigua to get us motivated more than we already are.”

Following the match against Antigua, the Hammerheads will travel to the West Coast to face the Los Angeles Blues on Friday and Sunday, with both games kicking off at 8 p.m. ET, before they return home to Wilmington. With only one day of rest between each game, the Hammerheads will spend majority of their allotted resting time traveling.

Although flying across the country can be exhausting, for some of the Hammerhead players it can have its perks. For California native Jack Avesyan, it is a chance for his family to watch him play since they rarely get the chance to make it over to the East Coast. Fellow Hammerhead players Troy Cole, Hagop Chirishian, Chukwudi Chijindu, Manny Guzman, and Dylan Riley also hail from California.

The Hammerheads jumped up one spot in the USL PRO standings after last week’s 1-0 victory over Pittsburgh. The lone goal came from Andriy Budnyy in the 45th minute as fellow player Manny Guzman sent him a through ball as they rapidly approached the goal. The remainder of the Hammerhead players had a more difficult time finding the back of the net with an accumulated 18 shots on goal.

UPCOMING GAMES

The Wilmington Hammerheads will take on the Charlotte Eagles on Saturday, May 19 at Legion Stadium, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. The theme for game night is “Beach Night,” sponsored by OrthoWilmington. Come out and join other Hammerhead fans over food, drinks, and soccer.
