CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Eagles are pleased to announce the signing of former Charlotte United Futbol Club (CUFC) goalkeeper Clint Irwin to a professional contract for the 2012 USL PRO season.

New Eagles player Irwin had a stellar youth career in Charlotte that saw him lead his Charlotte United Futbol Club team to back-to-back NCYSA State Championships. Irwin also was key member of the Charlotte Christian High School team that finished 2006 NCISSA State Runner-Up. Irwin was chosen as the 2006 North Carolina High School Player of the Year by the NSCAA. Irwin was also selected as a 2006 NSCAA/Addidas High School All-American.

Irwin went on to star for Elon University where he was named All-Southern Conference four consecutive years. Irwin ranks as Elon’s single-season shutout leader (10) and career shutout leader (22). The ’keeper was also a finalist for the prestigious 2010 Lowe’s Senior Class Award, a national award which honors men’s soccer’s top senior with notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. Irwin spent the 2011 preseason with Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution before signing a professional contract to play for Capital City FC in Ottawa, Canada. Irwin remains active in the Charlotte community as a coach for CUFU.

"We obviously are excited to add Clint Irwin to the Charlotte Eagles," said Eagles General Manager Tom Engstrom. "Those familiar with Charlotte area soccer are aware of the success Clint has had in youth soccer with CUFC, in high school at Charlotte Christian and in college at Elon University. Goalkeeping is such an important part of the game. Clint is a great addition to an already strong group of goalkeepers."

The Charlotte Eagles have also announced a special Family Season Ticket Package to CUFC families for the discounted price of $140 (Retail: $160). The Family Season Ticket Package is a flat price so whether you’re a family of three or a family of nine, the Family Package will get the whole family into every 2012 USL PRO and W-League (Lady Eagles) regular season game. The Charlotte Eagles will donate $20 from each family package sold to the CUFC scholarship fund. Interested families may purchase the discounted Family Season Ticket Packages through the Charlotte Eagles ticket page. To redeem simply use code: CUFC upon checkout.

"We also want to thank Charlotte United Futbol Club for their contribution to soccer in the community and for making available this season ticket offer to their membership," Engstrom said.
