ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando City Soccer Club is proud to announce the signing of American defender Wes Allen to a one-year contract, pending US Soccer Federation approval.

“It’s great to be back with the fellas again,” said Allen. “I played with a lot of these guys in Austin. We’ve got a good core this year and should have a strong season. It’s been great being in Orlando. We’ve got a great fan base already. I’m really looking forward to the season.”

Allen played his college soccer at Oakland University. In 2003, as a freshman, he was named a Third Team All-American. In 2008 he joined his hometown Austin Aztex U-23 team. He joined the Aztex senior team for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. In two seasons with the Aztex, Allen made 22 appearances. Although listed as a defender, Allen is known as a utility player, capable of playing several positions in both defense and midfield.

“Wes has been with me since the beginning,” said Orlando City Head Coach Adrian Heath. “He’s a great professional and can play several positions. He’s a really good addition to the squad.”

Allen joined Orlando City in training camp just prior to the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic. He saw action late in the 1-0 win against Toronto FC, but did not play against BK Häcken.
