TAMPA, FL - The expansion Edmonton Aviators selected Duquesne's all-time leading scorer Damien Pottinger with the first selection of the 2004 A-League College Draft.

Fellow expansion club Puerto Rico Islanders passed on its first overall pick, allowing the Aviators to draft the Scarborough, Ontario native as the first selection in the draft. Pottinger broke Duquesne's single season scoring record in 2002 with 18 goals and 42 points. This past season, he led the club to the Atlantic 10 championship game, where they fell in penalty kicks to Temple after a 1-1 draw. He had an assist in the game and registered 12 goals and five assist over the course of the season. He holds the school's all-time scoring record with 89 career points on 38 goals and 13 assists.

Thirteen Premier Development League players were selected in the draft with four going in the first round. Two-year Boulder Rapids Reserve midfielder David Wagenfuhr of Creighton was the first PDL player selected, going to Milwaukee as the fifth selection of the draft.

PDL 2003 Goal Scoring Champion Joseph Ngwenya of the PDL champion Cape Cod Crusaders and Coastal Carolina University was selected by the 2003 A-League champion Charleston Battery.

In addition to Puerto Rico, the Atlanta Silverbacks passed on both draft picks.
